Starting out online is not the simplest task if you’re new to online marketing. It’s a big world out there and it’s hard to know which direction to go in if you have no experience marketing online and making money through the internet. I’m asked time and time again by people wanting to get started online “how can I make money on the internet?”

They know it’s possible because they see other people doing it. Often times a newbee only sees people selling  “how to make money on the internet” products. But it’s easy to become confused if they have no idea what they want to sell. It’s also very confusing if they have no experience in these markets and they think these are the only markets with the greatest opportunities to make money online. However, that’s furthest from the truth. You can make money in very obscure markets like basket weaving, dog training, baking, gardening, child care… The list goes on and on. Many people have experience in hobby areas very similar to these but had no idea they could actually make money doing it.

If you want to make money on the internet you need to first ask yourself some basic questions:

1. First of all, you need to think about what market you want to get into. Think about topics of interest to you or areas that you have some experience or perhaps a passion in so that you can determine if it’s a suitable market to make some decent money from.

2. Then ask yourself; “What am I willing to do to get into this market”? Of course, you want to sell online and make money. But think about how much time you have and how much effort you’re willing to put into targeting this market.

3. Come up with some ideas of what you could sell and what type of information you can offer your market that would be of interest to them. If you can come up with a list, that would really help you focus and determine the best way to monetize your website. You’ll definitely need a website to sell your product or service. And even if you’re offering information, you’ll need a site to capture the names of your visitors that visit you. So, you’ll be investing in a domain, website hosting and an autoresponder program to capture the names and email addresses of your visitors.

So, write everything down. Think of your niche and write down some potential product ideas. “Also think about your budget. How much money do you have available to get started with your new online venture? But most importantly, what are you willing to do to achieve online success?  You need to become knowledgeable and take action. If you can do that there should be no reason why you cannot make a comfortable living online.
